General Information Founded in 2003, Monadnock Log Home Services is the confluence of many of founder Bob Colgate’s interests and passions. He has always enjoyed building things. His first project as a kid, was a three story tree house in his backyard in Washington DC. During college Bob had summer jobs in the construction industry. Later, while in the midst of his 30 year teaching career, Bob built a five bedroom summer camp by hand on a remote lake in Maine. It was accessible only by water and had no electrical power. Every stick of lumber had to be transported by boat 4˝ miles across the lake. Bob has enjoyed helping people learn and meet new challenges. He was a math teacher, coach, summer camp leader, a canoeing guide and later he was a dean and school administrator. Monadnock Log Home Services is the perfect marriage of these interests and his love of the outdoors. The landscape in southwestern New Hampshire where Monadnock Log Home Services is located, is dominated by Mt. Monadnock rising 3,165 feet above the surrounding area. A monadnock is a geological term in reference to an isolated hill, knob, ridge, or small mountain that rises abruptly from a gently sloping, or virtually level plain. The name is thought to derive from the Abenaki language, from either menonadenak ("smooth mountain") or menadena ("isolated mountain"). It seemed appropriate to include Monadnock in our name since the mountain is an integral part of our immediate service area and we "stand alone" as a first class, full service log home company. We are the Best of the Best! When Bob was planning his new business venture he researched a number of prominent log home companies. The decision to represent Real Log Homes was not taken lightly. Bob wanted to be associated with an industry leader, a company not only with substantial log home experience and technical expertise but also with an outstanding record of customer service and impeccable business practices. Bob found the ideal business partner in Hartland, VT based Real Log Homes. Real Log has been in business for over 40 years, and has built over 28,000 homes.Their patented Inter-Loc joinery system solved the settling and air leak problems that plague many of their competitors. Furthermore, the people that Bob met at Real Log were friendly and passionate about their work, and committed to producing a quality product.
